-because no matter how many times you try and tell yourself that things have changed, a person, really doesn't change. this you know to be true.
-what seems like a good idea at the time will, inevitably end up kicking you in the ass the next day, and for the several days following that.
-it's really not helpful to be reminded of the song that he hears to this day that still reminds him of you.
oh, or to rehash the time at your old apartment, when no one was around, that thing that you two did. that he thinks is so hot, and oh by the way, just so happened to mention to his buddies the other day. really, what the fuck?
-and most importantly:
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

That's one of my favorite quotes...I guess it's also the definition of hope or rather in the relationship realm--misguided hope. Pointless hope.
Seriously? I'm almost creeped out right now. After last night I was thinking the exact same thing and had started writing a post using the exact same quote. Sigh. On the plus side, it's nice to see I'm not the only one who thinks that sometimes keeping in touch with an ex is as healthy as having a bath with your favorite toaster, while it's still plugged in.
#737 & #740 can also hold true when dealing with in-laws.
I am very thankful that my only "ex" is located somewhere on the East coast while I'm still in the Midwest. Easy to stay out of contact and chances of running into said ex are fairly slim. But, these are all good things to keep in mind just incase something happens in the future.
Amen to the last one. I wish I would've realized that early on in the relationship as opposed to 7 years later.
ally- i love the quote too. if only i'd pay attention!
brandy- you totally are not the only one. im the definition of a keep in touch-er. hmm. time for changes. bath in the toaster analogy is a good one, ha!
arm- i like the similarity with in-laws. i can only imagine.
airam- amen to that. ahh, oh well.
backsliding is everyone's worst enemy when it comes to relationships.
jeorg- backsliding is the devil. bad, very bad bad.
I have never kept in contact with any of my ex's. Thank goodness! AND for all of the reasons that you have stated :)
appletini- keep my mistakes in mind!
Oh, is this why you chatted with me briefly tonight? How come you only chat with me when you're all moody about your exs? :D
double a- oooh! ouch! not true. chatted with you because it had been a while and wanted to see how you were doing. no moody funks here about exes. cut a girl some slack, yo!
All those reasons, plus many many more, are why I am so glad my detectives tell me I can't have any contact with my ex's....
The things that make you go hmmmm..
carrie- i guess we all have these lists, huh?
egan- that's for sure.
Right on! It may work for some people though. I've learned that it's better to move on.
No...people don't really change. It sucks ass that we want to beleive so badly that they can...and things will be different...but it all seems to come back around again to what it was in the beginning.
Who sings that song?
Your timing ROCKS! I got an email from my most recent ex and I haven't decided if I wanted to read it yet...this makes the "just delete and pretend it never happened" side win!
It must be the time of year for it. I just rather stupidly gave an ex my phone number. It'll only end badly. I know that. But what the hell.
the egg- i agree, in some cases i suppose it can work. in this one, it should be pretty evident to me, by now, that it's not in my best interest.
tbone- it's true. the song with the slideshow? jenny owens young. wicked random, but good. i saw her a couple months back and am going again next month.
i thought it was appropriate given my thinking that this continued ex contact is cool. what the fuck was i thinking?
ruby- if you are able to delete it without reading it, you'll sure as hell have more willpower than i ever could. clearly. damnit to hell.
beth- no kidding. sucks. what the hell is right damnit.
tbone- owen youngs i mean. oops.
I love that quote! So true. And, it really is a bad, bad, bad idea to keep in touch with exes!
...then I am insane. But it's ok, because I'm going to take off to another country, AND another continent, very soon. It will hopefully give me the opportunity to clear my head (for a whole year). Thanks for the post, I needed it.
By the by, sorry for the sudden disappearance, I migrated. But I can now be found here --> http://migratingcoconuts.wordpress.com/
YOU hit it dead on with reason #739 B-
[Oh or to rehash that thing that you two did. That he thinks is so hot, and oh by the way, just so happened to mention to his buddies the other day.] (!!!)
I find it so ironic when they text/call/tell us these things despite that they are seeing someone else… I guess some of us leave them with memories they would rather not forget... despite that we are on to bigger ;) & better things.
jennifer- bad indeed! can you remind me again in a couple weeks? im bound to fuck up again.
michelle- well join the club! i was wondering where you went!!
desiree- yeah. i know. please. dont want to be reminded of that stuff anymore!
The definition of insanity made me laugh out loud. That's so funny! And so true.
beth- too true!
