tri'ng to find a spouse

What was really encouraging today, as I was browsing through books at Barnes and Noble on triathlons, was this line in one of the books:

"Your biggest supporter in a triathlon will be your spouse."

SWEET.

Hey, book reading is for chumps. Take it from me, one of your biggest supporters will be a bloody mary drinking Canadian who thinks you rock. (Oh, that's me in case you weren't sure...)

Oh, great. Guess I'll just stick with single sport events.

...AND random dudes you meet on the internet!

brandy- love that you brought up the bloody mary's again. speaking of swooning!

justrun- ha, i know right?

egan- yeah, those wild, random dudes. they are a force to be reckoned with.

barf, right? Obviously the author was never single. He/she must have been betrothed from birth to make a statement like that. Unbelievable.

I guess nows the time to change the defination of spouse worldwide...

Ha! Because all triathlon competitors are married. Obviously. Duh, Brookem!

That's what is great about those books - what is good for one can not always be good for another. And by great, I mean lame.

This must be why I'm not in triathalons, because I am unmarried. I must go call all my married people and ask them if they were hounded with triathalon invites as soon as they walked down the aisle....
I know you're going to be amazing in this triathalon cuz you're brookem and you're fabulous! Go you!

was this book written in 1954???? hello? womens lib anyone?

Ok Brookem you can do this. You have a little over a month to find yourself a husband.

I say you make a tag-board that says "am running a triathlon and need supportive spouse" and walk the streets of Boston(ish). I think that's way better than mail-order brides.

So am I still allowed to cheer you on even though we're not married?

That's just another excuse for me to not exercise! I don't have a husband, so why bother? :)

Okay, now the real response. If you are married and your spouse isn't into your triathlon pursuits, you're doomed. I think this is the angle the book was trying to take. Triathlons take much money, time, and energy. Without support from your spouse (if married), you'd be in much trouble. It's a hobby, but a rather engrossing one.

I concur with Egan. If my husband was not into triathlons or I wasn't, we would both be annoyed at each other when one of us decided to spend a perfectly good "family day" running, swimming and biking away from the family.

I'll be your "husband" if you need extra support.

Joy said...

So where do I sign up for these triathilons??

egan said...

Yeah, Tori supports me in this. It's so true though. Hey, you can't be her spouse Tori, that's my role. I'm her guru/mentor/virtual spouse.

Radioactive Tori said...

Egan-I believe polygamy is ok in the virtual world. Can't we just both be her spouse?

desiree- i know right? out of control. i didnt buy the book, needless to say.

rambler- good call. then spouse can mean my friends and family and you guys. that's all i need. well, for triathlon support anyway.

arm- i know! i dont know what i was thinking!

rubes- you're so sweet, thank you!

eb- i know, too much, huh?

airam- ha! i love your idea. when i go out running and biking i will don this sign. yes, im counting on you cheering. thank you.

megabrooke said...

beth- i know. i dont know what i was thinking signing up for this without man in tow. idiot.

egan- your other, for reals response. i hear what you're saying. i just found it kind of baffling that here one of the first things the book talks about is my number one support being my spouse. i mean, come on. i totally get it, but really. and of course i'd pick up that exact book and page first. fitting.
oooh, i sound bitter. oops.

radioactive girl- i know, it totally makes sense. oh what a sweet offer! is this like, a proposal?

joy- i signed up online. there's lots of websites for it. let me know if you want a linky.

egan- it could be like the show i watched on tlc the other day (because im still obsessed with that and lifetime as of late). this man had four spouses. interesting concept.

radioactive girl- EXACTLY!

Linky pleasey.

yeah. that was my number one reason to get married, support for all those triathalons i run. yep...

on the same note, a lesbian friend of mine was told by a staff assistant that she should get married so her husband would give her an umbrella on rainy days... we both laughed at that one for a very long time.

I just had to tell you that though I mocked your triathalon ambitions yesterday, you apparently made an impact on me. I just agreed to participate in a 5k Boot Camp race with a bunch of friends.

What did you do?!!! :)

Hey! I just realized my original comment was the first one. Yessss!! I rule!! Mwhahahahaha! (Just think how excited I get when I actually win a board game). Okay, going to take a nap.

egan said...

Brandy, you take cat naps?

Chris said...

I hear you can buy them from Russia.

megabrooke said...

joy- done.

jeorg- that's too funny. i hold my own umbrella. actually i hardly use one.

undercover celeb- you rock! that's awesome. im doing a 5k (that just so happens to end at a bar???) next tuesday. sah-weet.

brandy- i noticed that and meant to comment! because i know how you were looking for this spot. and look at me, i missed your updated post all day today. that makes me feel like shit.

egan- meow.

chris- sweet. with good heads of hair, uniformed, layered?

I love that kind of support. Even better when your acquaintances start asking you where your husband is...when you've never been married.

Sarah would be supportive, but still reserve the right to think that I'm crazy anyway...
